SAVE YOUR PAY Support Basic Services City of Albuquerque Employees, stand up to be heard. Contrary to what you’ve heard about a 3% pay cut, Mayors Berry’s proposal could affect your real income/benefits by almost 10%. While the rest of Albuquerque enjoys a continued level of service they are not paying for, you and your family will be required to get by with less. Have you considered what you will do without when you have a smaller pay check? There is time to be heard and prevent salary cuts. On April 22, at 4:30 pm, the Union invites you and your family to the City Council Chambers in the basement of City Hall to tell City Councilors just how wrong the Mayor’s proposal is. Tell them how City positions have been continually eliminated since 1997 and that you are performing 2 and sometimes 3 jobs for the price of one. City Employees were never meant to be viewed as a reserve fund for when tax payers decide not to spend revenue. Just as the public safety tax is allocated for public safety, we need to explain to the Council that employee wages are allocated for employees and not budgetary shortfalls. The citizens by not spending have no right to expect a continued level of service they are not paying for. Politicians have no right to expect employees to balance the budget their Backs /pay checks. Union leaders will be addressing these concerns and more and need a show of support. Wear your green AFSCME shirts, call your City Councilor or the Mayor’s office, and have your family do the same. Call 311 for Mayors office and city councilor’s and voice your opinion now.
