AFSCME members receive recognition for their work as a union

“Receiving this recognition left us feeling empowered and appreciated for the work we do not just to make our communities better, but the work we do to make our lives and workplaces better for each other because we have a strong union,” said Eric Spiers, President of Local 3370 – Town of Silver City. 

On September 8, AFSCME members in southwest New Mexico were celebrated for the important services they provide to their communities as public employees and for the important work they do protecting worker’s rights, creating a safe and fair workplace, and fighting to keep a strong voice on the job as a union.  

AFSCME members from Local 2517 – Grant County, Local 3882 – Western New Mexico University, Local 3370 – Silver City, and Local 3973 – State of New Mexico employees received a proclamation from the Silver City Mayor and Commission in honor of “Union Workers Recognition Week,” recognizing the contributions of union workers, honor the sacrifices of previous generations of organized workers and their families, preserve the labor history of Silver City and the surrounding mining district, and to reaffirm the dignity, value, and importance of all working people.
